What's the Forecast?
(A 50% chance Shane will be a meteorologist!)
by Shane Hayman

As most of you know, I went to Job Shadow Lisa Teachman of WSAZ News Channel 3 at the Clay Center for Arts and Sciences in Charleston, WV on March 31, 2005. I helped predict the weather, and she showed me how to put the forecast together. It was a lot of fun.

Lisa had a weather intern named Brandy. We asked all kinds of questions and she told us stories. For example. There was this man in Nebraska, and he was watching TV in his living room. There was a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued, and without anyone knowing anything a hail the size of a volleyball came through his living room. It did a lot of damage and he was fine.

I talked to one of the other meteorologists at Channel 3, named Adam Joseph. He asked me some questions and asked me where I was from. When I said, “Racine, Ohio” he said, “You mean to tell me that you are from Racine where they got hit really hard last year by Hurricane Ivan when it got to Racine?” I said, “Yes.”

I listened to Lisa and Adam as they discussed the weather. Dad’s biggest question was “Do you all disagree on the weather?” They said, “All the time.”

I appeared on television for about six seconds, and it was a bump shot. Mom recorded it and I watched it when I got home.

Here is some sad news at WSAZ. Adam Joseph and Lisa Teachman both left for better jobs. Adam went to Philadelphia and Lisa went to Baltimore. They now have two new meteorologists at WSAZ. They are Erin Jordan and Todd Borek. Todd took Adam’s place. His telecast is weekdays at 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. Erin is the new Weekend Meteorologist, working the entire weekend. Todd is from Michigan and Erin is from Duluth, Minnesota.
